Often we have curious guests asking about the family rafting program and how the middle channel trip differs from the high adventure main channel trip. So, with much thanks to one of our top family rafting guides Cara, who wrote the piece below, here is a quick overview of your family rafting trip day.

Your family adventure day begins on flat water practising paddling commands and getting oriented with your friendly and professional River Guide. The first rapid of the day is called Initiation. This piece of white water packs a mighty punch running over 3 holes, sure to thrill even the smallest white water enthusiast.

Next we float down Heaven's Half Mile stretch, swimming, playing games in the raft and talking about the natural geography and heritage of the area.

After the flats we run Iron Ring and S-bend rapids, stopping to have a smooth surf and play in S-bend hole.

Just before lunch we soar down Butterfly rapid with a big splash. First we raft it then we head over to shore and give our guests an opportunity to body surf the Butterfly from top to bottom. Don’t be shy our guides swim with you at the front of the pack.

At lunch time we spend a peaceful 30 minutes having a picnic style meal in view of the rapids, watching other boaters and swimmers cruise through the rapids.

Surf’s up after lunch as we head over to Caterpillar Hole for some rowdy splashes, sure to put a smile on everyone’s face.

Next up we take a little detour and walk down the rocks next to the infamous Garvins Chute. Home of the mighty Dragons Tongue waterfall, a scenic whitewater rapid with a beautiful surf and play spot called Dragons Beard.

After a wild surf in Dragon’s Beard we head down the river to the No Name Rapids. Upper no name meanders around a rock escarpment creating great curling waves to splash all sides of the boat.

Next we prepare to paddle hard for the Lower No Name Rapids. With enthusiasm we charge down this wet and wild rapid full of holes and great splashing waves. Hold on tight this feature is sure to give you a thrill.

For our last rapid of the day we do 360 spins down the beautiful Black Velvet. A smooth and splashy feature to finish our whitewater adventure.

As we float down the river back to base camp we spy large prey birds and beaver dams then jump in for one last swim before our river trip is done and we are back at the RiverRun Whitewater Resort Campground.

RiverRun Rafting Itinerary – High Adventure

Arrival & Evenings

Arrive to our base resort the night prior to your rafting day. Check-in and register then proceed to our campground to set up camp or one of our accommodations that you reserved when booking. Your will be given a map of the property and be required to sign a waiver of liability.

Enjoy the evening campfire or enjoy an evening swim in our private bay. Saturday’s we offer live entertainment around the campfire or under our pavilion. Volleyball and half-court basket ball are lit up for nightly games. We do have a licensed bar and store for your needs.

Note-If you are planning to arrive before 5pm you can add a dinner by advance reservation or choose to eat out at local restaurants.

Day 1

Wetsuits & Registration opens 7.30 – 8am by the waterfront pavilion if you have any questions or wish to rent a wetsuit if weather conditions are less than perfect. Wetsuits should be rented before your safety briefing and we require a piece of photo ID to hold until wetsuits are returned after your trip.

A liability waiver will be required for you to sign if you did not sign one the night prior.

Then over to the pavilion for your home cooked breakfast!

Breakfast is included and served buffet style between 7.30 – 9am. We offer a hot meal along with bagels and cereals, juice, coffee and tea.

Safety First: Meet up with your trip leader for a full safety briefing and what you can expect during your trip. Then you will be instructed to get your equipment for your trip.

We provide lifejackets, helmets and paddles. Please be sure to see our “what to wear & bring” section of our website.

After boarding our buses and a short ride to our put-in property you will meet your guide for the day. Our guides are whitewater professionals that are highly skilled and trained for your safety. Our entertaining guides are hired, not only for their skills at whitewater but also to introduce you to the history of the Ottawa River.

As you board your raft you can already hear the thunder of the first set of rapids of McCoys Chute and the adrenaline starts to pump!

Part way down the river we will be stopping for a riverside lunch and short break. The Ottawa River water levels are controlled up-stream by a hydro electric dam so as the water levels change so do some of the other activities offered along the way. Try some body surfing in gentle whitewater or some cliff jumping…its optional and all part of the experience.

Your rafting day ends back at our resort property, where your car is, hot showers, sauna and dry clothes. The RiverRun advantage is that there are no bus rides or long pontoon rides after the last set of major rapids….our location is simply the best.

Our video crew has been shooting your trip all day and a complimentary re-run presentation (and maybe a Canadian beer from our pub) is a part of your day. Copies may be purchased on DVD.

Dinner is also buffet style served between 6-7.30 pm. Our menu offers one entrée option with healthy salads, dessert and beverages; everything is home cooked and using local products wherever possible. Vegetarian options must be pre-booked when making your reservations.

Evening: Free time to enjoy our resort property. Bring your hiking shoes for some fantastic woodland walking trails and scenic lookout….your likely to come across some creature of two along the way. Share your adventure stories with other guests at our main campfire; enjoy a sauna or a moonlight swim. Some quiet time after a busy day!

Your resort package includes another hearty breakfast under our pavilion. This is your free day. This is your time to really enjoy the beautiful property of our resort.

The Ottawa River, upstream of Canada's Capital, Ottawa, is the country's top destination for rafting and kayaking. While most of the river has been harnessed for hydro-electric power, there remains the "Rocher-Fendu", an old French word meaning "split rock". It's where the river flows through two billion year old granite bedrock and an island paradise of 175 islands (in high water) creating a whitewater playground.

The dozen dams upstream have created wide shallow lakes lined with granite which captures the heat of the sun and warms the water. Because watershed is not mountainous, electricity is generated with warm surface water. As a result, the Ottawa is blessed with not only spectacular rapids but also warm water well into September. It's a unique combination.

River Run Advantage for Paddlers

RiverRun boasts the best location on the Ottawa River for taking out at the end of a day of paddling. At the bottom of the last set of rapids is our beach and campground, close to your car, gear and dry clothes all safe and secure.  Now booking for 2017!

Summer 2016 was ideal for rafting with it's great weather and perfect water levels. We have been busy renovating and landcaping. We now have free wifi at the Pavilion for all our rafting and kayaking guests.

Each year, more people return to River Run Rafting Resort to experience the incredible thrill of whitewater rafting on the Ottawa River. With River Run Rafting, you can choose the trip experience and thrill level that’s right for you!

New Rafting Adventure Video with GoPro Camera

Big Rafts & High Adventure

Our most popular raft trip is our 12 passenger High-Adventure Whitewater Raft Trip. This big raft offers lots of whitewater fun and is perfect for first-timers, groups and families…a little more raft and a great Canadian experience!

Sport Rafts & Ultimate Adventure

River Run pioneered the sport raft program on the Ottawa River over 20 years ago and we can confidently say “we do it best”. Our rafts are custom made for us by Sotar. Lighter in weight and with extra cross tubes, allowing you and our guides the maximum fun and experience available in whitewater!

Family Rafting

For the young and “young at heart”, join us for this gentlewhite water rafting trip on the Middle Channel of the river. With just enough whitewater to make it fun there’s plenty to see and learn about this historical river.

Our Resort & Accommodations

With over 4000 feet of beautiful shoreline on the Ottawa River, River Run Rafting offers the best location on the river. The resort property is the arrival point for your day of adventure with a short bus ride to put-in. Located just below the last set of major rapids you will arrive back at the resort for hot showers, your dry clothes, a cool refreshement at our lively pub while enjoying a video re-run presentation of your trip.

Camping and a choice of affordable accommodations are available to overnight stays.

During May & early June, the water is cool & wetsuits are available. Later in the summer, the river warms up, to roughly 20 C (70 F).

You will be given the option to ride the raft or walk the short portage trail at every significant rapid.

A. No, you just book for the amount of people who wish to raft, RiverRun will fill the rest of the raft with other guests.

Q. If our group reserves separately, can we be guaranteed to be in the same raft?
A. The best way is to elect one group leader that takes care of the whole payment which gives you the best odds of being in the same raft, however in the event that separate bookings are made you can “Link” the 2 reservations. Please inquire at the time of booking.

Q. Can we pay cash upon arrival?
A. No. We require your reservation to be paid in full prior to your trip. Without full payment, we cannot hold the spots for you.

"Tyson Sullivan is a new up and coming talent around the area that focuses on his lyrical range as well as an acoustic performance. As a performing artist he sticks to the soulful and meaningful balance between fun dance tunes as "Get rhythm" by Johnny cash as well as heartfelt moments with "Tears in heaven" by Eric Clapton putting his own spin on old classic but is also very versatile to sing in original format. Very driven and rises to any occasion with the virtue of passion for the music and has a wide variety of tunes to appease the audience as well to enjoy their time with the young performer. His Band Falhalver's Barrel is another option available to any venue that would prefer band rather than solo. You will have a great time either way as you dance the night away with his solo act or with the full band behind him."

Located just 90 minutes from Algonquin Park and 80 minutes from Ottawa, in the town of Eganville Ontario, lies the Bonnechere Caves.

Under a hill of limestone, said by geologists to have been the bottom of a tropical sea 500 million years ago, the Caves present a weird and wonderful sight. Stalactites, or rock icicles formed at the rate of one cubic inch in 150 years, hang from the ceiling and the handiwork of nature is enhanced by electric lights. Feel free to bring along your own flashlight and comb our walls and see the literally thousands of fossils that are embedded in our limestone walls. Entombed in the rock and preserved forever can be seen fossils of coral and sea creatures alive long before the age of the Dinosaurs. Millions of years in the making, the Bonnechere Caves are a thrill for the sightseer.
